The reurbanisation strategy of the Gartenstadt-Atlantic complex proposed a holistic approach comprised of modernising, balancing structural rehabilitation and reprogramming of uses. Lichtburgforum. The existing café was extended and orientated towards the square, public seating-accommodation provided and the Lichtburg Phantom installed.
Other commercial units were converted according to the needs of present tenants (kindergarten, medical practices) and in terms of intended future tenants such as self-employed service providers and artists. Examples are the studio Atelier Günther Uecker, and the Atelier bf-Design, as well as the live-in studios of Nan Hoover and of the Polish Academy of Fine Arts. Being able to gain financial support of large and renowned corporations, we moreover provided the space for thematic study workshops in which now various youth projects take place: art didactics in the study workshop "Lernwerkstatt Museum" in cooperation with the Berlin State Museums (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin), early musical education in the "Klingendes Museum", the study workshop "PC" and the study workshop "Natur und Wissenschaft" (Nature and Science).

In 2008 the modernisation of Gartenstadt Atlantic is declared one of the most outstanding construction developments of the last ten years by the Berliner Architektenkammer (Berlin Achitects' Association). In the yearbook, Claudia Lux, director of the state library Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin, is quoted as follows: "Gartentadt Atlantic – a phenomenon which comes alive through its history... conjuring up memories of the film palace. Visible quality of life and green backyards for an impoverished quarter. A breakfast restaurant, a theatre and the local soccer club fan tradition provide a pleasant atmosphere on the beautifully composed entrée square. Marvellous the transformation of dead angles of the city to inhabitable public space. A redesign for a new living culture encompassing a Gesundbrunnen (mineral spring) for the soul”.
