ARCHITECTURE – COMMUNICATION – URBANISM
Under the direction of Benita Braun-Feldweg and Matthias Muffert and since 1999, the practice of bfstudio-architekten works in several projects, the majority of which has a special focus on the dialogue with the public space.
The guideline of all our projects is a programmatic charging of architecture in the context of urban communication:
We understand architecture as a complex, multidimensional texture of public and private space. The ultimate goal of the fundamental permeation and re-valuation of the inner and outer space is a re-urbanisation, is to revive social communication by architectural staging. For this purpose, we attach a great deal of importance to a conceptually holistic and context-oriented approach. Therefore for each project we consider the historical nexus (past dimension), characteristics (present dimension) and potential (future dimension) of both project and location in order to develop holistic utilisation concepts giving the architecture a central, namely socio-communicative function. Consequently, questions of formal aesthetics are of minor importance in this process. Although sensitive for questions regarding history of architecture and culture, bfstudio-architekten consider the strategic-conceptual aspects in the respective spatial context more topical and exigent.
